FACT 1:

Queen victoria opened the Town hall in 1897; due to new technology at this time, she was able to open the gates of the town hall with a lock handed to her while she was seated in her carriage. The public believed that this remote electronically opened the gate, but in actual fact the key signaled a bulb to go off inside the building, which signaled workers inside the building to open the gates manually.

FACT 2:

Each mayer who held office during the period of the buildings construction had their face carved into panels in the reception area.
